Okay. Okay. Okay. I’ve finally picked up my jaw and can actually talk about this movie.
Okay, so… Nope. Can’t do it.
Okay. I think I got it.
So I’ll be the first one to admit that I had no idea what to expect with Last Jedi. I mean, the last two entries in the Star Wars galaxy (The Force Awakens and Rouge one) have been home runs in my book, so there was a kind of anxious pressure put on Last Jedi to be great.
And it was. Oh my god it was!
I think the best part of these new wave of Star Wars movies is that they really care about telling a good story with fantastic visuals and making these movies feel like they belong in the same world as the original trilogy but are still taking us on a journey and showing us things that we’ve never seen before.
Now I won’t talk about the plot too much, because if I give any accidental spoilers, I’ll be murdered by the Internet.
But I will say that this entry picks up more or less straight after force awakens and continues with the story of Rey (Daisy Ridley) and Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) for the main part, but also gives some breathing room for Finn (Jon Boyega), Poe (Oscar Isaacs) and a few other characters, giving them a side arc and letting them show a rebellious spark.
Now personally, I love it when a Star Wars movie takes a break from lightsabers and the force, and focuses on the WAR in the STARS.
That’s why I loved Rouge one and that’s why I liked Last Jedi.
Okay that’s all I’ll talk about plot wise.
Okay, can I just quickly say that Rain Johnson’s direction was absolutely marvellous, and I’m so glad that they’re now letting other talented directors wear the Star Wars hat. That is all.
In summary. The last Jedi is a great addition to a wonderful franchise, packed with great performances (especially Mark Hamil), stellar battles, (geddit. Stellar battles. Stellar=star battles=war) and an excellent cameo from an old favourite.
I rate it at 9 stars. And 6 wars.
